Accessing Linux
From Mosaic
You can connect to our Mosaic Linux servers from a Mosaic Windows computer or your personal computer. You can access Mosaic Linux from Mosaic Windows by going to “Start>>All Programs>>Linux>>Connect Me>> FastX # Client” and selecting a server. The list of Linux X servers will be pre-populated, but if it is not, the following are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

After selecting a server, then choose the “GNOME” desktop option. The VirtualGL options provide better graphics performance.
From a Personal Computer
To access Mosaic Linux from a personal computer the program FastX must be used. Off campus you will need to use the campus VPN to connect. The instructions below guide you through setup of the VPN which can be found on this website. View the guides found here for access from a personal computer.

Command Line
If you have Internet access and have downloaded a SSH2 client such as PuTTY, you can access your Mosaic files from off campus to check mail, write and/or compile programs, or perform any of other Linux command-line tasks. This is the most secure way to access your Mosaic account from off campus. A guide for this can be found here.
The server you would connect to using the SSH client is: engr-lcs1.uncc.edu or any of the other servers bulleted above.
Lab pool
To access the labpool, click on one of the following links, login with your Mosaic credentials, and launch one of the VirtualGL session options:
